Mark Kulas – Painting
Studio #4
Mark grew up on the shores of Golden Lake east of Algonquin Park and his school workbooks contained as many sketches as notes. He describes his painting style as a distillation of his graphic design/illustration background and the folk art of his Polish heritage. Thematically, his stylized paintings depict the wildlife and wilderness of Muskoka, Algonquin Park and the Ottawa Valley. He explores colour and form using acrylics on canvas.
Mark is always observing his environment for reference and subject matter, and his vehicle usually has a canoe or kayak on the roof, ready for exploring some inviting lake or river. He paints at the family cottage on Bella Lake in Muskoka and at his home in Pembroke.
