Sharon McKenzie – Painting

Landscape is the focus of Sharon McKenzie’s acrylic paintings with the occasional foray into birds and buildings. Capturing the feel of the particular day, time or season is important with a focus on colour and light. Sharon starts with a strong composition, usually a photo taken during walks, hikes, or skiing and sometimes works en plein aire.

A coloured wash is applied to the canvas, red in summer and orange in winter, then the image is sketched in with a dark pigment. The colour layers are built up, working from dark to light.
