Woodwork

Xavier Fernandes is a Canadian artist based in Orillia Ontario who has been woodworking and woodturning since 2018. His pieces range from candleholders, bottlestoppers and spinning tops, to live edge bowls and platters. Recently he has been making Memories of Mariposa Bowls, thin-walled bowls that have been allowed to warp into interesting shapes. These bowls are made from ash trees located on the Mariposa Folk Festival site, close to the Lightfoot and Estelle Klein stages.

Xavier enjoys making commissioned pieces for customers with wood from their family property. Much of Xavier's work is made with salvaged wood. His woodturned pieces bring out the natural wood grain and the shapes are often sculptural in form.

Xavier has been creating art for over 30 years in a variety of media including paints, drawing tools, digital images, graphic design and even music videos. He has also worked with body paint, clay, stone, and metal. His work can be found at Peter Street Fine Arts Gallery and Studio in Orillia as well as Xavier Fernandes Home Studio, which can be found on Google maps. Contact him for a woodturned heirloom.
